Yes, I am guilty. I am guilty of belonging to the millions of women who find Ryan Gosling unbelievably attractive - and talented. For me it weren't those mainstream roles, like in "The Notebook", or "Crazy, Stupid, Love", no it were those gritty, dark films, like "Half Nelson", "The Believer", or last year's "Drive". Those happen to be the kind of films I am drawn to anyway, but I find Mr. Gosling happen to be doing an excellent job portraying the misfits of our society. "Dan" who is a high-school-teacher and has a secret crack addiction which he is trying to cover up as good as he can, until one of his students finds out. Or "Danny", the Jew-turned-violent-Skinhead who is struggling to find his actual believe all throughout "The Believer". Those roles made me notice Ryan Gosling, otherwise he would probably be just another good looking, mainstream actor, who I wouldn't pay much attention to.
Saying this, I am getting very exited for the upcoming "The Place Beyond The Pines", which also starrs his current girlfriend Eva Mendes, as well as Bradley Cooper (who is another one, who has been trying to break out of his comfort zone lately, but that's another post). It looks dark, gritty and I am almost positive Ryan Boy will play another misfit of our society because that's what he does best.
